I asked my wife to give me the book for Christmas and read it on boxing day. All in all it is written nicely with a lot of new information and twists in history. Obviously it was hard to fill a full book with Tupaias stories as he was not to well looked upon by Cook (for whatever reason) and thus he does not appear in his diary too often, but I found the author felt too often compelled to add his name to situations where there was obviously no direct connection to him whatsoever. Also apparently New Zealanders of today feel they have to view Cook's endeavors with quite some criticism and I could feel that in the book at places where I don't think it was necessary.I don't mind opinionated texts, but for this story I thought there was too much in it and in the end it tainted the read unnecessarily.
